SMS

Short Message Service. This is an useful tool nowadays in terms of our communicaton with our families and friends. As I mentioned before, recently my parents have learnt how to send smses in Chinese. All of a sudden, my sms exchange with them has became a two-way communication now. Last time, it was like only one-way. I would normally just send them a sms in Chinese requiring them to answer me either "Okay", "Yes" or "No". However, now since they themselves can type in Chinese, they are able to ask me all sorts of questions ranging from "下雨了,有没有带雨伞?" to "有没有回来吃饭?" See, now it is two-way communication. =)

SMS is indeed popular as it poses no threat of immediate reply as compared to a phone call. The receiver can take his or her own time in replying so long that it does not exceed the time frame for that reply. In addition, it certainly does not disturb the person in what he is doing now, for example, in a meeting or watching a movie.

SMS is a way of communication which all of us can identify with. Do you know that there is a way which we can communicate with God? That is through prayer. I shared with my cell group members last Saturday that the word, "Prayer" means different things to different people of different faith. For Christians, prayer means talking to God. Yes, it is that simple - just talking to God. You can see we do not offer any sacrifices as we believe that the ultimate sacrifice had already been offered and that is in the person, Jesus Christ. He is our Redeemer and offers His Body as a redeeming sacrifice for us. The Worthy Lamb of God.

Hence, we just need to present our requests to God through talking with Him. It is indeed a privilege to pray! Phi 4:6 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Furthermore, when we pray, we know that it is not a one-way communicaton but two-way. Because the Bible tells us so in 1 John 5:14-15 which says, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him."

Therefore, when next time a Christian offers to pray for you, have the confidence that he is praying to a God who not only has given him this helpline to call for help but He is also listening attentively to his requests, answering them in His own Godly timing.
