One More Chance

Just watched the movie, "One More Chance" (三个好人). Let me give you a basic synopsis of the movie:

Huang, Hui and Guang served jail sentences for their respective crimes which they have committed. Despite coming from different backgrounds, an extraordinary bond was formed during their time in prison. After their release from jail, the trio encounters severe family pressure as well as societal discrimination despite their willingness to turn over a new leaf.

After watching the movie, it causes me to reflect. It was a very touching movie and in fact, I was sobbing at some parts of the movie. I think I have really put myself in the shoes of the three main characters as they tackled their different life issues and situations. They need that one more chance very urgently. Although I can identify with them by imagining myself being in their shoes, but afterall it is still only an imagination on my part.

The case is different with Christ Jesus, our Lord. Jesus being the Son of God, enjoys a Trinitarian relationship with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. The foundation of their relationship is love. In Genesis, God created man so that he can enjoy this perfect relationship with Him. However, man sinned in Genesis 3 and our chance to enjoy this relationship with Him is broken. Is this the end?

Definitely not. God is sovereign and He has already planned in His mind to send His Son, Jesus Christ to redeem us even before He created man. Hence, there is indeed one more chance for us to go back to God. Jesus did not only imagine Himself to be in our shoes when we are dealing with our own respective life issues and situations. He loved us so much that He came down as His creation, man 2006 years ago. John 1:14 says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." The Word is Christ.

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted he is able to help those who are being tempted. (Hebrews 2:18) Jesus became like us and He knows what we are all going through. He came down from heaven just to give us one more chance to go back to God. He redeemed us by His Blood, bearing all our sins and dying on the Cross to pay for our debts. He is the Son of Man because He is our example of a Perfect Man who lived a life in full obedience to God the Father. With Him, God is well pleased and He is saying to us, "Look! This is my Son, Jesus who is lifted up for all to see. Follow in His example."

Therefore, God raised Him from the dead to prove that He is the Living God. The curse of sin which is death is broken by Christ's resurrection from the dead. Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) This is indeed true because Jesus is the only one beside the Holy Spirit who is in a Trinitarian God relationship. Only the son can know the father intimately. How much more does Jesus being the Son of God knows God the Father!

Everyone needs one more chance to go back to God because we are all born sinners. The good news is God did not forfeit us that one chance we need. He gave it to us freely through Jesus. As we utter in our lips complaining about that one chance we need in life (be it careers or relationships), are we actually rejecting Jesus who is actually God's only chance for us to go back to Him?
