12:1
耶 和 华 对 亚 伯 兰 说 ， 你 要 离 开 本 地 ， 本 族 ， 父 家 ， 往 我 所 要 指 示 你 的 地 去 。

12:2
我 必 叫 你 成 为 大 国 ， 我 必 赐 福 给 你 ， 叫 你 的 名 为 大 ， 你 也 要 叫 别 人 得 福 。

12:3
为 你 祝 福 的 ， 我 必 赐 福 与 他 。 那 咒 诅 你 的 ， 我 必 咒 诅 他 ， 地 上 的 万 族 都 要 因 你 得 福 。

12:4
亚 伯 兰 就 照 着 耶 和 华 的 吩 咐 去 了 。 罗 得 也 和 他 同 去 。 亚 伯 兰 出 哈 兰 的 时 候 ， 年 七 十 五 岁 。

12:5
亚 伯 兰 将 他 妻 子 撒 莱 和 侄 儿 罗 得 ， 连 他 们 在 哈 兰 所 积 蓄 的 财 物 ， 所 得 的 人 口 ， 都 带 往 迦 南 地 去 。 他 们 就 到 了 迦 南 地 。

12:6
亚 伯 兰 经 过 那 地 ， 到 了 示 剑 地 方 ， 摩 利 橡 树 那 里 。 那 时 迦 南 人 住 在 那 地 。

12:7
耶 和 华 向 亚 伯 兰 显 现 ， 说 ， 我 要 把 这 地 赐 给 你 的 后 裔 。 亚 伯 兰 就 在 那 里 为 向 他 显 现 的 耶 和 华 筑 了 一 座 坛 。

12:8
从 那 里 他 又 迁 到 伯 特 利 东 边 的 山 ， 支 搭 帐 棚 。 西 边 是 伯 特 利 ， 东 边 是 艾 。 他 在 那 里 又 为 耶 和 华 筑 了 一 座 坛 ， 求 告 耶 和 华 的 名 。

12:9
后 来 亚 伯 兰 又 渐 渐 迁 往 南 地 去 。

12:10
那 地 遭 遇 饥 荒 。 因 饥 荒 甚 大 ， 亚 伯 兰 就 下 埃 及 去 ， 要 在 那 里 暂 居 。

12:11
将 近 埃 及 ， 就 对 他 妻 子 撒 莱 说 ， 我 知 道 你 是 容 貌 俊 美 的 妇 人 。

12:12
埃 及 人 看 见 你 必 说 ， 这 是 他 的 妻 子 ， 他 们 就 要 杀 我 ， 却 叫 你 存 活 。

求 你 说 ， 你 是 我 的 妹 子 ， 使 我 因 你 得 平 安 ， 我 的 命 也 因 你 存 活 。

法 老 的 臣 宰 看 见 了 她 ， 就 在 法 老 面 前 夸 奖 她 。 那 妇 人 就 被 带 进 法 老 的 宫 去 。

法 老 因 这 妇 人 就 厚 待 亚 伯 兰 ， 亚 伯 兰 得 了 许 多 牛 ， 羊 ， 骆 驼 ， 公 驴 ， 母 驴 ， 仆 婢 。

12:17
耶 和 华 因 亚 伯 兰 妻 子 撒 莱 的 缘 故 ， 降 大 灾 与 法 老 和 他 的 全 家 。

12:18
法 老 就 召 了 亚 伯 兰 来 ， 说 ， 你 这 向 我 作 的 是 什 么 事 呢 ？ 为 什 么 没 有 告 诉 我 她 是 你 的 妻 子 ？

12:19
为 什 么 说 她 是 你 的 妹 子 ， 以 致 我 把 她 取 来 要 作 我 的 妻 子 ？ 现 在 你 的 妻 子 在 这 里 ， 可 以 带 她 走 吧 。

12:20
于 是 法 老 吩 咐 人 将 亚 伯 兰 和 他 妻 子 ， 并 他 所 有 的 都 送 走 了 。

11:1
那 时 ， 天 下 人 的 口 音 ， 言 语 ， 都 是 一 样 。

11:2
他 们 往 东 边 迁 移 的 时 候 ， 在 示 拿 地 遇 见 一 片 平 原 ， 就 住 在 那 里 。

11:3
他 们 彼 此 商 量 说 ， 来 吧 ， 我 们 要 作 砖 ， 把 砖 烧 透 了 。 他 们 就 拿 砖 当 石 头 ， 又 拿 石 漆 当 灰 泥 。

11:4
他 们 说 ， 来 吧 ， 我 们 要 建 造 一 座 城 和 一 座 塔 ， 塔 顶 通 天 ， 为 要 传 扬 我 们 的 名 ， 免 得 我 们 分 散 在 全 地 上 。

11:5
耶 和 华 降 临 ， 要 看 看 世 人 所 建 造 的 城 和 塔 。

11:6
耶 和 华 说 ， 看 哪 ， 他 们 成 为 一 样 的 人 民 ， 都 是 一 样 的 言 语 ， 如 今 既 作 起 这 事 来 ， 以 后 他 们 所 要 作 的 事 就 没 有 不 成 就 的 了 。

11:7
我 们 下 去 ， 在 那 里 变 乱 他 们 的 口 音 ， 使 他 们 的 言 语 彼 此 不 通 。

11:8
于 是 ， 耶 和 华 使 他 们 从 那 里 分 散 在 全 地 上 。 他 们 就 停 工 ， 不 造 那 城 了 。

11:9
因 为 耶 和 华 在 那 里 变 乱 天 下 人 的 言 语 ， 使 众 人 分 散 在 全 地 上 ， 所 以 那 城 名 叫 巴 别 （ 就 是 变 乱 的 意 思 ） 。

11:10
闪 的 后 代 记 在 下 面 。 洪 水 以 后 二 年 ， 闪 一 百 岁 生 了 亚 法 撒 。

闪 生 亚 法 撒 之 后 ， 又 活 了 五 百 年 ， 并 且 生 儿 养 女 。

亚 法 撒 活 到 三 十 五 岁 ， 生 了 沙 拉 。

亚 伯 兰 ， 拿 鹤 各 娶 了 妻 。 亚 伯 兰 的 妻 子 名 叫 撒 莱 。 拿 鹤 的 妻 子 名 叫 密 迦 ， 是 哈 兰 的 女 儿 。 哈 兰 是 密 迦 和 亦 迦 的 父 亲 。

撒 莱 不 生 育 ， 没 有 孩 子 。

A beautiful song by Jacky Cheung.

It talks briefly about the different stages of a woman and how they are related to a concert. Oh, Jacky is coming to Singapore soon for his concert on 13 July. The response is too good to be true. 90% of 13 July concert tickets have been sold and this is just the 19th day since the sale of tickets. The organizers added another show day on 14 July and it is already 50% sold out!

I have already gotten a pair of tickets for the 13 July concert (luckily, I did not spend six months of my savings for it) but the key point is I have not managed to be able to find a friend to go with me. Hopefully, I can find someone to go with me by end of June…

美好回忆

Fond memories of these twenty-six years plus of my life are the focus of this entry. These days, I have been thinking back to my childhood days when fond memories were found. I will just like to document three of my top fond memories here so that when I read back to my postings, I can laugh it all off. haha.

One day, many years back, I was doing my homework. That time, I was still in primary school while my sister was in kindergarten. Out of the blue, she asked me for my help to sharpen her pencil, “Gor, can you please help me to sharpen my pencil?”

Being the good brother, I agreed instantly. Hence, I started to put my heart and soul into sharpening this pencil of hers. Finally, it is done and the pencil lead is now very sharp. Those good old days of using conventional pencils where you need to sharpen them can be tiring but at least it shows that life was at a slower pace back then. However, my sister was not satisfied with her sharp pencil as she commented, “No… I don’t want it to be sharp but I want the pencil to be longer as you sharpen more.”

The bomb was dropped on me.

No matter how hard I tried to explain to her that a pencil can never be longer than before you sharpen it, she still does not understand. Therefore, I have no choice but to refer her to my mum. Hmm, you need some technical knowledge to be able to explain this engineering concept of a sharpener. haha.

Have you ever played Snake and Ladder? I think most of us or rather those who belongs to my era will know about this board game. Yup, you know whenever you enter into a box where there is a snake’s head, you will ‘drop’ through the snake’s long body to another box at the snake’s tail. That is a fundamental rule of the game. Whoever reaches the last and final box first wins.

My family and I used to play this game very often together. Now, my sister has a different concept of the game. Hmm, I won’t say that her concept is wrong because technically speaking, it can be quite true. She commented at that time that when she reaches a box with the snake’s head, she will just stay away from the snake at one corner of the box so she will not need to ‘drop’ to another box at the bottom.

Okay, you may be right technically but the rule of the game must stay. haha.

Do you like to eat cone ice-creams? From young, I like to eat cone ice-creams. However, I learnt a great lesson when I tried to consume a cone ice-cream for the first time. I actually bit the sharp tip of the cone first! Oh man, yes you got it. I had quite a hard time finishing it as the ice-cream itself was dripping from both sides of the biscuit cone. My mum at that time cannot decide if she wants to scold me or laugh it off at my pathetic plight. haha.

我是去年最佳新进工程师？

I went back for a group meeting this evening. Halfway through the meeting, I realised that many fellow colleagues of my department started streaming into the meeting room. Out of a sudden, my department manager started to give out awards to two Best New Engineers of the year 2006 for the third to fourth quarter. I was stunned that I am one of the two Best New Engineers. (Actually I also do not really know what is going on and why they suddenly have this voting for the Best New Engineer of my department)

Upon receiving this certificate coupled with a $100 food voucher, my mind started to replay the scenes of that first day when I first stepped into DM. The pain and struggles which I faced while juggling the heavy workload against my zero experience was too great for me to bear in those times. I started to pray more often and sometimes, I really think whether I should just quit. However, God is the one who affirmed me that evening at the beach in Sentosa during the YA retreat to be couragous and go out to working life. He is the one who saw me through the interviews and placed me in where I am right now. How can I fail Him when He has planned out the paths for me? How can I just quit because I cannot take it instead of casting it all upon Him when He said that He cares for me? No, I should just share my burdens and troubles with Him so that He can see me through it all and my faith will be increased further to a new level.

Oh, what can I say right now? Thank You, Jesus. Really thank You for letting me see that there is really light at the end of the tunnel. Despite of difficult times or rough patches, I know that I can go through simply because I have You by my side. Just yesterday during my bible study session, my BS leader was telling us that one day is like a thousand years to our God. He has witnessed my funeral and thus He knows the best plan for my life. This point greatly changes my mindset when I pray to Him. No matter whether He answers my prayers or not, I can rest assured that His Will for my life will still prevails. All I need to do is to commit my life to His Will.

So I am one of the two Best New Engineers for 2006. However, I will like to be learning from the apostle, Paul who has said, "However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. (Acts 20:24)" In short, I will like to be one of the Best New Creation of Christ. (2 Cor 5:17)

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, you too are His Best New Creation. Walk close with Him today and remember that we are all baptised by His Holy Spirit into His Heavenly Family!

他 又 等 了 七 天 ， 再 把 鸽 子 从 方 舟 放 出 去 。

到 了 晚 上 ， 鸽 子 回 到 他 那 里 ， 嘴 里 叼 着 一 个 新 拧 下 来 的 橄 榄 叶 子 ， 挪 亚 就 知 道 地 上 的 水 退 了 。

地 还 存 留 的 时 候 ， 稼 穑 ， 寒 暑 ， 冬 夏 ， 昼 夜 就 永 不 停 息 了 。

耳濡目染

Time flies so fast that I am quite shocked that I have already been working in my first job for about five months already. I still remember that on my first day of work, I overdressed. One look at me and you know that it was my first day of work. Haha. Fresh graduate blues. I must admit that I went through quite a lot during my five months stay in my current company.

Five months into my job, I will say that I have managed to pick up the essential skills so far. Right now, it will be to build up my work experience so that I can be really professional in doing my job well. All in all, I think I will stay in this company for the time being. Maybe about two years at least.

Why?

Oh, many reasons. One of the top reasons is I strongly feel that God is the one who has been leading and preparing me for my current company, current department and current section. How He saw me through the challenging two interviews plus criticism by fab operators have been amazing. How I manage to stay so cool tempered in the midst of the hectic and stressed environment for five months can be accredited to the grace of Christ which has always been with me. Praise the Lord.

Besides the top reason, there are other reasons too. The other reason is I am beginning to feel that I am part of this big and warm family (my department). Many times, I feel like a younger brother where all of them are looking out for me and reminding me not to make silly mistakes. They also gave me many valuable advices which has in fact helped me a lot in my work. Furthermore, my three bosses are nice people whom have been guiding me and also sharing their engineering experiences which they have accumulated over the years. Fantastic.

God plus family warmness. There is another one. That is love. Nope, not that I have begun to take an interest in any of my lady colleagues. I said love because I truly can experience the love which all my married colleagues demonstrate to their spouses. Yeah, most of my colleagues are married, okay? I am one of the two male colleagues who are not married. The other one is currently attached now. Hence, I can be said to be the only bachelor around in my department. Yes, the love which they shown to their spouses either through their words or actions is simply heart-warming. I am simply touched by their act of love for their spouses.

Happily working in my current job. Has a lot of things to learn and also a big mission to complete for God. Pls do keep praying for me as I strive to be a strong witness and ambassador for Christ! Thanks a lot. ^^v

Exhausted + Tiredness = zzzzzzz

I am very tired after working in the night shift. Truly exhausted. Pls pray for me that I will be able to pull through the many more months of night shift. Will continue to trust in Christ and His faithful promises.

I think I will try to sleep well tonight and not dream so much. Too many things on my mind recently. Realised that listening to love songs nowadays has taken on a new meaning and perspective for me. Seriously considering if I will want to go for the Jacky Cheung’s concert on 13 July 2007.

By then, the timing should be ripe, I guess?

How’s Your Progress?

My former Crusade Bible Study Leader always like to ask me this question, “How’s your progress?” And it was definitely not related to my Final Year Project (FYP) progress at that time but rather my progress in the search of a life partner. My response to that will always be “No progress.”

That response has been the same for at least one and a half years by now. It is true. No progress at least for the last 26 years of my life and counting. Recently during my supper break in my night shift, my colleagues and I decided to play a game. They called it, “真心大对比” but I called it, “终极密码”. I think all of us know how to play this number game as taught by a Taiwanese variety show.

Okay, the key point is they have actually tried to ‘trap’ me so that they can ask me some sensitive questions and I am required to answer them truthfully. Hmm, does this sound familiar to you? (For those who have just played the same game with me recently on 20 Feb?) As usual, I also do not know why I am so called very ‘unlucky’ in this game as I usually do not guess the correct mystery number. However, they collaborated among themselves and finally succeeded in ‘trapping’ me.

The millionaire question was, “ 你谈过几次恋爱？”. My response to them was zero times. Quite similar to that “No progress.” No experience at all in this area of boy-girl relationship which is quite similar to a fresh graduate in a new job. On the contrary, I do think there is a need to get started someday just like a fresh graduate will definitely need to get a job and after getting a job, will need to learn as much as he can pertaining to his jobscope so as to perform it well. My church Bible Study Leader sums it well in this question posed to me, “Do you want to get married in the first place?”

My question to all is this, “How do a guy and a girl enter into a relationship?” If somehow, God is directing me to that special someone, how do I carry it on from there? Besides praying, should I inform the leaders to be praying for the both of us as well? Seriously, I do not know how to go about it after God brought to my mind regarding that person besides praying to Him and seeking His will in the relationship. 男人煩什麽？

一個男人會煩什麽呢？
我思考了一會兒，發現其實有一句台詞説得還蠻正確的：

“男人只能為兩件事而煩。
一是為了錢不然就是為了女人。”

我暫時還沒有想到有第三件令男人煩的事。

创世记 ~第三章~

Pray for Church Leaders [v12-13]
It is dangerous when a church family takes their leaders for granted and fails to pray for them, work with them and encourage.
Accept them, Appreciate them, Love them, Respect them.
Hold them in highest regard – Warren Wiersbe.

Encourage the Timid [v14b]
The timid / feebleminded tend to look on the dark side of things and give up when the goings is tough.
Scold them? Punish them? Pressurize them? Tease them?
The Bible says ENCOURAGE them.
Encourage others by examples, humble beginning, kind words – cards, emails, sms, etc.
Be gracious (God is gracious).

Admonish the Idle [v14a]
Admonish the unruly – NASB
The unruly are those who are “out of line” and those who are “careless” or “lazy”.
The Bible says to admonish (correct) / warn the idle.
Do not sweettalk, pamper or cover up for them.

Carry the Weak [v14]
Help the weak – The weak Christians are afraid of their liberty in Christ. They tend to major on the minor & miss out the big picture. Do not despise them, push too hard or be critical. Treat them with TLC (tender, loving, care).
To the weak, consider these:
Carry, Care, Coach
Empower them
Stand by them
Be patient with everyone and be kind to one another.

Experience God [v16-18]
A lot of Christians know that these verses very well but whenever they are hit by some problems, or struggles in life – they are not so joyful anymore. When they are depressed or sick – they do not quite thank God anymore. In fact, some struggle with God, some blame God, some deny God.

Submissive to God is essential in order to be joyful, display Christ-centredness [Gal 2:20] and lead a Spirit-filled life [Gal 5:25].
Be joyful, prayerful, thanksgiving, hold on to the good and avoid evil.

I need to work at P.E.A.C.E with God.

庸人自扰

天下本无事 ， 庸人扰之为烦耳。

上了夜班，白天当晚上，晚上当白天。

上了夜班，就没有了固定的就寝时间。

上了夜班，心里开始有一点点不平衡。

上了夜班，让我没法好好地去作礼拜。

上了夜班，黑眼圈好像越来越严重了。

上了夜班，几时才上普通班也不知道。

上了夜班，多了自由所带来的疲劳，一个字累！

XY 理论

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

~Romans 7:15-24~

This week has been the lowest point of my spiritual life since the beginning of this year. I realized that I have been failing God’s standard in the area of purity. At the same time, I asked myself a question repeatedly, “What does it really mean by being filled with the Spirit?”

Every Christian struggles with God’s standard of a Christian life. Not even Paul was spared from this agony of sinning against God. He mentioned in Romans that there is this war waging between the members of the body against the mind. Personally, I have similar struggles. Many times, I do know that this thing which I am about to do is a sin but yet I still carried on to do it. Who will rescue me from this body of death? Paul went on to answer his own question, “Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

The XY Theory as adapted from the book, The Man in the Mirror goes like this:

One interesting business management theory developed by Douglas McGregor, a professor at MIT, goes by the name “Theory X / Theory Y.” The Theory X manager believes people are basically lazy and irresponsible and will do a poor job unless constantly supervised. Theory Y managers believe people generally want to do a good job, and they will respond to clearly defined objectives. If only supported and encouraged, people will get the job done.

There may be some biblical basis for this theory. The Bible depicts two parts to our mind: one controlled by the sinful nature, which we might call Mind X, and a second controlled by the Spirit, which we might call Mind Y. As followers of Christ, we are not left on our own to squirm with the sinful nature of our “Mind X”, but we have been given the Holy Spirit to teach us and guide our “Mind Y.” The Holy Spirit is how God has equipped us to win the battle for our minds.

If we understand the workings of our two minds, we can conquer our secret thought life. Here’s the decoder:

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds [their Mind X] set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds [their Mind Y] set on what the Spirit desires. The mind [Mind X] of sinful man is death, but the mind [Mind Y] controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

~Romans 8:5-6~

Back to my own question, “What does it really mean by being filled with the Spirit?” The author actually says that when Christ is in control of our lives, the Holy Spirit is in power. When we let the old man [Mind X] – the sinful nature – be in control, then the Spirit is quenched. The solution is to bring every thought captive (2 Cor 10:5); and if we find we have sinned, confess it (1 John 1:9), and ask Christ to again take control. That’s the essence of living by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Everyone sins. Inevitably, we are overcome and give way to temptation. When you become aware of a sin, confess it to the Lord and thank Him for forgiving your sins – past, present, future – according to His promise in 1 John 1:9. Invite Christ to again take control of your life, and get on with the next part of your life. This is the essence of living by the power of the Holy Spirit.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

~1 John 1:8-9~

When Jesus controls our lives, the power of the Holy Spirit is at work in us (John 14:26; 16:13; Romans 8:9). The Holy Spirit is given to all believers (1 Cor 3:16). However, not all believers enjoy this power because they resist Him or otherwise sin. Even more, most Christians do not understand how to live in a moment-by-moment, daily fellowship with God.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. It belongs to the surrendered man who yields control of his life to the mind of Christ every moment.

If we crucify our own ambition, confess our sins and give Jesus Christ the first place in our lives, then the power of the Holy Spirit [Mind Y] is available to meet every need. Living by the Holy Spirit is that intense moment-by-moment love relationship with Christ in which we soar on wings like eagles, or having sinned, we tearfully confess and are restored.

Knowing the XY theory, I have to be all the more alert in breaking all my ties with the old man and submitting my body to the Spirit. The first essential building block to win this battle is to do daily Bible reading and study which is coupled with prayer.

Right now, for my every prayer to God, I will first confess my sins before Him. A basic guide for prayer as I have learnt from my bible study leader is this:

I pray that after knowing this theory, I will be ready to commit my Christian life daily to Him and to be truly living by the Holy Spirit moment-by-moment. Amen.

婚姻重要，但非必要？

Is marriage important and crucial in life? I think if we sincerely want to answer this question, we will need to first sit down to define what is marriage and what does it involve.

AskOxford.com defines marriage as:
noun the formal union of a man and a woman, by which they become husband and wife.

What is involved in this formal union? Lots of things are involved. For example, you are supposed to take care of her in times of hardships, sickness, riches and health and so on so forth. Sorry, I cannot type out everything that is involved in a marriage vow correctly as I am unable to remember it word for word.

Basically, a formal union where after which two will become one flesh in spirit. It is holy and sacred. God is fully involved and a new chapter begins for this couple who has exchanged their vows in front of their Author and Perfector of their faith. A very beautiful picture, isn’t it?

Marriage is viewed as holy and sacred by God and it should also be held in high regard by us who are called His children. It is all in that formal union. This brings to my mind why God wants to make covenants with His chosen people. Covenants which work in a similar fashion as marriage is like an agreement which God makes with us as His children.

The bible is divided into Old Testament (旧约) and New Testament (新约). In simple words, God has made at least two covenants with His people which can be broadly divided as these two testaments. Let us now look slightly deeper into the various covenants which God has initiated with His people.

Noahic Covenant (Gen 9:1-17; cf 6:18)
- Conceived and established by God Himself
- Universal in its scope
- Unconditional and eternal
- Sign - Rainbow – no human obligation

Abrahamic Covenant (Gen 12:1-3; 15 and 17)
- Element of the covenant
i. Heir – Son
ii. Inheritance – Land
iii. Heritage – Blessing to all nations
1. Repeated to Isaac -- Gen 26:3-4
2. Repeated to Jacob – Gen 28:13-14
- God Himself confirm the covenant (Gen 15:7-21)

New Covenant (Jer 31:31-34; 32:36-44; Eze 36:22-32)
- Unconditional
i. Faith in obedience
- Under old covenant, relationship with God was mediated through priests. Under new covenant, relationship with God is immediate. We can now go to God directly.
- Obedience will be facilitated by a change in the nature of those who are included in the covenant. Law written in the hearts, man is now able to obey because of the miraculous change in his nature. (Eze 36:26-27)
- God no longer remember the sins of His people (Jer 31:34). As long as sin remained, God was required to punish. But now the penalty of sin has been removed, the threat of punishment is eliminated and the covenant will never be broken.
- Sign of covenant – Baptism of the Spirit (2 Cor 3:6)

If we claim to be Christians (Christ, I Am Nothing), true followers of Christ, then we are formally united with God through this New Covenant. We are now able to obey God because of a miraculous change in our nature. We have gone through the baptism of the Spirit and the covenant will never be broken.

Never be broken? That means we are forever God’s reconciled children. Even today, if you are leaving your church, forsaking your cell, giving up all your ministries simply because you see no hope or your faith is shaken due to certain issues or storms or conflicts in life, remember this one point:

The covenant will never be broken.

We are all binded in this covenant with God and are related to one and other by this covenantal relationship with Him. We are one body of Christ! If one part of the body refuses to function, the whole body suffers. This is what it means.

No covenant will be established without blood. Our covenantal relationship with God and one another is established by Christ’s blood. Let us sincerely treasure this covenant which God has established with us by sacrificing His Son selflessly on the cross to redeem us. Amen?

Wah, time passes really fast as usual. One month of 2007 is gone just like that. Furthermore, I have already finished two weeks of night shift. Many asked me when will I transfer back to normal shift. Frankly speaking, I am also not very sure. Maybe after 3 months or after 1.5 years? It’s really up to the management to decide. Therefore, I am leaving it totally to them whom has been specially chosen and put in place by God.

Anyway, working in the night shift has distorted my sleeping pattern. Take for example, I worked from yesterday evening till this morning. Came home, bathed and slept till 5pm today. Looks like I will not be able to sleep again tonight and I will be a walking zombie tomorrow at church. Seriously, date and time also seemed so messy in my mind. Okay, today is 3 February 2007 and the time right now is 6pm.

Going to work in the evening seems like a breeze because there is no morning rush crowds at all. Coming home in the morning is also a breeze because I am going in the opposite direction of others. It seems like whenever I am off, the only practical thing is to sleep. All in all, I also cannot decide usually what time I will sleep. So long I am tired, I will just sleep.

Another issue for me is to learn how to make full use of my waking hours in the night on my off days. I have thought it through. Maybe I can use it for reading, cycling or jogging. After all, these are my hobbies. Now that I have slightly more time in the night, I should make full use of them, right?

However, I do enjoy the night shift experience. At least, it is quiet in the office compared to many distracting tasks thrown at you during the normal shift. In addition, stay awake through the night do seems to let you feel that you have more time on your hands to do your own stuff.

On the hand, going to church now becomes a struggle. I am unable to be fully fresh and alert during service. How to overcome it? I think I will need to pray. As for cell, I will try my best to make it for the meetings whenever I am able to do. Pray for me as I struggle to make it for church services and cell meetings. Thanks.

Many times I feel disappointed over the things that have been happening around me. Is it due to my poor communication skills? Yes, He called me to be shepherd for His people. I was reluctant to take up this role but He called me strongly so I tried my best. However, His sheeps went astray under my leading. Please punish me, God. I have failed you miserably. I have let you down. I should have stepped down long ago. I am too proud and pride overtakes me. Please call another person to be your shepherd. I am not fit.

Father, if it is according to your will, please grant me the permission to step down as your lousy, incompetent, boastful shepherd.

开个小玩笑

Three persons passed away on the same day and found themselves in front of Heaven’s Gate. They were each asked about their occupation before being granted the permission to enter. The first guy replied saying that he was a doctor and has helped to save many lives and healed different diseases. The second guy mentioned that he was a teacher and has labored to mould the lives of the next generation, thereby helping to produce useful people for the society. Now, it was the third guy’s turn.

Suddenly, the Heaven’s Gate opened and God stepped out. With tears in His eyes, He hugged the third guy and said, “You don’t have to say a thing, my child. I know that you have worked hard all your life. Come on in.”

The third guy was an engineer.

Moral of story:
Engineers are known to be hardworking.

This joke was adapted from my boss’s database and his key point was that we need to be hardworking to be engineers. Hence, staying back in office till 10pm is just the tip of the iceberg. Frankly speaking, I really enjoyed this joke and therefore decided to put it in as an entry. =)

猫头鹰的智慧

I really cannot believe that I have actually switched my biological clock so instantly that I am awake for the whole night. Wah, thanks a lot to those who have been praying for me to adapt to the night shift. I must say that I have adapted pretty well. The only problem now is I think I may be very sleepy later during church service. Hmm, can pray for me again if you happen to see this post now? Thanks. =)

暗恋史

在念理工学院的时候，我曾经暗恋过一位女生。暗恋很久，长达八年之久。其实如果她现在还单身的话，我想我应该会向她展开追求攻势吧。

可是话又说回来，如果当年的我并没有向她表白的话，八年后的我还会有这个勇气吗？一九九八年，十八岁的我认识了她。从那时起，就暗恋了她。三年后，我信主了。可是她并不是基督徒，所以我发现我不能跟她谈恋爱。从此虽然我们依然保持联络，但我还是一直没有跟她表白。

事隔八年了，今年就是第九个年头了。今天的我还有跟她联络。不知道她有了对象了没有。不管怎么样，我会为她祈祷， 希望她会有回到主身边的一天。这样的话，我们还能在天国见面。

经过这段暗恋史的我虽然今天依然是孤家寡人， 但我却学到了如果碰到喜欢的人时，就一定要跟她表白。不然人事亦非时，就后悔莫及了。不过在向她表白之前，我要先问一问我天父的批尊，因为说什么，主耶稣可是我未来内人的公公呢。

成长的过程中

In the process of growing up, we all face changes and different challenges. For me, I am not really a person who will resist changes all the way but I certainly need some time to get used to changes. Like what I have mentioned in a previous post: Stages in Life, there are various stages in our lives and I am now at the adult stage – the second last stage of life.

At the adult stage, there are new added responsibilities and in the beginning, I am not really used to it. For one, I am not really used to paying for everything which I hope to acquire. In the past, my parents will pay for me but now I will have to pay for something which I want to buy myself. On top of that, I have to pay for my parents too. That’s a change. Being an adult, you also need to bear all consequences for your action. Responsibilites is that essential element which put stress on you. This is simply because you are solely responsible for the tasks assigned to you. Hence, if you happen to mess things up, you will need to be prepared to answer it to your boss. A fact of life. Changes for me to adapt again.

Sometimes, children will hope that they will grow up soon as being adults have all the freedom which they like. They think that being a child has its own restrictions. Okay, that may be true in their context but having an adult’s freedom comes with responsibilities. (Does this remind you of Spiderman?) When you have endless tasks waiting for you in the office and endless bills to pay, the sight of the so called freedom eludes you. That’s a new challenge for you in life.

I think God plans for everyone to commence life as a baby so that through the years of growing up, we can gain some fundamental experiences which are required to prepare us for adulthood. We started off by depending on our parents for every single thing. Through the years we spend with our parents, it has shaped our mentality on how we relate to others and also how to guide our own children to adulthood. We make mistakes to learn. We may take the wrong paths but we are sure we will not let that happen to our own children. My dad, for example, has told me from young to get a good education so that I will not be like him who is illiterate.

The years of growing up is essential to prepare us to face issues in life. Even right at this moment, I am still learning new things everyday and gaining new experiences to share. Everyone will need to go through five different schools in life. Four from primary to university while the last one is the ‘Society University’ (社会大学). Getting four A*, 8 A1s or countless distinctions coupled with diploma of merit and First Class Honors degree will not get you anywhere in life. The key point is to ace and excel in the Society University.

Many did not even make it to a tertiary education but have excelled in the Society University alone. They have graduated from this life with the honors of remembrance by many. Therefore, in growing up, be ready to make mistakes to learn and to treat issues like treasures because they are free lessons for you to acquire that experience in life.

步入第二夜

Going into the second day of night shift tonight, I found out this morning that I am disorientated with my dates. Yes, I was telling my colleague that I would be working tomorrow which in actually fact is today because the time when I was telling her was 0515 hrs. “Oh yah hor, today! Haha.” She told me that even after I woke up from my sleep at home, it is still 22 Jan 07 (today).

Overall, the toughest night which was last night had gone. I was doing well the whole night, staying quite alert and refreshed till 0645 hrs this morning when I started to feel the tiredness overtaking me. From 0645 to 0800, I felt the sleepiest. Hope to perform better tonight by staying alert all the way.

Slept from morning till 1600 hrs. Woke up to have a light dinner and now preparing to get back to work which commences at 1920 hrs.

Pls continue to pray for me to be able to adapt well to the night shift and also to continue to be holy for the Lord because He is holy (Lev 19:2).

新家的第一夜

Tonight, I will be working in my first night shift in my new office. New section, new working shift, new office, new phone, new chair, new cubicle with new table but only my computer is the same one from previous office. Then again, my computer is relatively new too since it does not have some of the software at first for my job.

A new beginning after my confirmation for my job, I really give thanks to God for granting me this job. In everything, give thanks to Him (1 Thes 5:18). Everything means that even when I am struggling in areas of purity, financial security, life and death, I am to give thanks to Him. Maybe because everything that can happen to me has been approved and granted the permission by Him.

I am struggling in the area of purity for the past thirteen years and counting. This is so true that I am still struggling today. I lent my laptop to a brother for his FYP because I did not want to log on to those websites ever again. However to stay in touch on my emails, I still have to use my sister’s laptop. Logging on to the net always causes me to sin in this area. Why can’t I just be obedient to Him for once?

This year, I am sincerely preparing my heart to be baptized. The heart condition is truly what God sees. Hence, I hope to dedicate all areas of my life to Him, submitting to His will for me and living out my life by His word so as to be truly filled with the spirit (Eph 5:18).

Working in the night shift will be a great test for me. This is simply because there will be no one at home when I come back from work. This will be a great temptation for me to fall in the area of purity. I sincerely urge any believers of Christ to pray for me at least for these following three months that I will be able to win this battle which belongs to God. In addition, I will be missing from church services and cell meetings due to my work. No matter what, I do pray that I can continue to go in the direction where God wants me to go.

Rocky Boat

Singapore is an island. We are surrounded by sea and so traveling in a boat to go to other islands around us is one type of transportation which we can use. For me, I have traveled on a boat before and if the sea seems to be having rough waves, the boat will be rocky.

What happens if you are on a rocky boat? You will need to anchor your boat on something that is firm and to grip on it as your foundation. Then in that case, your boat will not be rocky and it is ready to face the storms and waves in the sea. If you do not want to find the foundation to grip on, your boat will not only be rocky but it will start to follow where the storms and waves lead. Soon it will lose its direction.

Take note.

You cannot control the coming of the storms and rough waves but you have the freedom to decide if you want to anchor your boat on something firm.

In the Graveyard Hours...

I will be proceeding to the night shift starting next Sunday, 21 Jan 07. Pls pray for me to be able to adapt well to the new working hours and also to be able to sleep well during those hours which I am required to sleep. Becoming a night owl or night kitty cat soon. Owl is wise while cat has nine lives. Anyway, here's my working schedule till Feb 07. =)

Deception

I will like to write a post on deception. What is deception? Deception is the act of deceiving. It is simply the act of bluffing or lying about something. There was a movie called, “Liar, liar”. I am sure all of us can identify with the man in that movie. When it comes to a stage when he can’t lie anymore, life becomes difficult for him.

Just how serious is saying a lie or believing in a lie? I used to think it is okay to say a lie once in a while but I am still annoyed when someone lied to me. Sometimes, I termed some lies as white lies, which means that they are not serious lies. However, now I think the term, “white lies” is a big lie by itself. I strongly believe that lies or deception is a very serious problem. This is simply because my enemy is a father of all lies!

In other words, every lie which I say comes from my enemy. If I want to live by my Father’s truth but yet still carry on lying, then am I following my Father or my enemy instead? Thinking back on this, lies accomplish the motive of deception which destroys the fellowship with my Father.

The enemy has deceived every unbeliever in my midst (2 Cor 4:4). He has also not let the believers have a chance to go scot-free because he is still doing all he can to continue to deceive them through temptation. The guilty pair came in being because of deception. Hence, let us be strong and abide strictly to what our Father has said in His word.

Before you want to say a lie next time, do think twice. If you claim to know the Truth, the Way and the Life, why are you now trying to bluff your way through?
